About
Ron Coons
From the early age of eleven, Ron embarked on his imaging journey, wielding a camera through Junior High and High School, where he established a small photography venture. This entrepreneurial spirit led him to capture a diverse array of subjects, from sports action to portraits, product advertising, and even photojournalism for the local paper.
His passion for visual storytelling led Ron to San Diego State University, where he delved into the realms of television, radio, and film, graduating in 1988. Post-graduation, he co-founded a grip and rigging business, honing his skills in special effects rigging, car mounts, rain effects, and prop construction, paving his way into the motion picture industry.
Relocating to Los Angeles in 1989 marked a pivotal moment as Ron immersed himself in the motion picture camera department. Starting as a Loader, he swiftly ascended to become a fully accredited First Camera Assistant and a proud member of the International Cinematographer's Guild.
In tandem with his cinematic endeavors, Ron embarked on an entrepreneurial venture, establishing "Camware" in 1989, which evolved into the renowned "Filmtools," an internet-based mail-order catalog catering to camera professionals. The business flourished under his guidance until its sale in 2000, continuing to thrive under new ownership in Los Angeles.
With over three decades of experience spanning commercials, feature films, and music videos, Ron now calls Fort Walton Beach, Florida, home. Here, he channels his expertise as a Cinematographer, Video Editor, and Still Photographer, continuing to weave captivating visual narratives with each frame.
